Java Browser Plugin Download
Yesterday I updated Java to 'Version 8 Update 131 (build 1.8.0131-b11)', and I can longer use Java plugins on any version of Firefox, which means I can no longer access the VPN. It was my understanding that The ESR versions of Firefox would continue to support Java through into 2018, but this has not been my experience. The Java plugin is part of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and allows a browser to work with the Java platform to run Java applets to execute in the browser. The Java plugin is enabled in a large number of browsers around the world and this makes it a target for malicious hackers.

Is IcedTea's Java browser plugin (OpenJDK browser java plugin) for windows available? I googled, but couldn't find any windows installer for the same. I tried Zulu, but it seems zulu is not provi. However, if for some reason you need an older release, such as 1.3.0, 1.3.001, 1.3.002, or 1.3.1, they are available from the link below. Note that you should always download and use the corresponding version of the HTML Converter for any of the 1.3.0 releases of Java Plug-in. Download java-1.6.0-sun-plugin linux packages for CentOS, Fedora, ROSA, RPM Universal.
I need java, but I don't want any browser to be able to access it.
Is it possible to remove the whole applet/browser plugin code?

As of Java Version 7 Update 10, the Java Control Panel (in the Security tab) can disable the Java plug-in completely: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/disable_browser.xml
This should avoid the possibility that a Java upgrade might re-enable the plug-in, which might be a risk with some other approaches.

If you install the JRE; you can delete or rename npjp2.dll or libnpjp2.so (on linux); or on Linux make it non executable (chmod 0000 libnpjp2.so). This single file is the plugin file.
They're located in %ProgramFiles%jre<x>binplugin2 on Windows. On Linux, they're where ever your java is installed. You can run locate libnpjp2.so to find the location.
The same also applies to the JDK.

One method to disable the Windows/IE browser plugin is to set a deny ACE on the following files:
