Compact Bedford Literature Pdf
It's a really good book, but I prefer the more compact later edition. My complaints about this begin and end with it's big, floppy size. It's too thick, taller than I like (but not too bad in the scope of textbooks) and pretty heavy.

MID-TERM BREAK BY SEAMUS HEANEY
This is a poem that has stuck in my mind from an anthology of poetry called 'Songs of Ourselves' that my brother studied. It is a child-like recount from a boy away at school who is fetched and taken home for the funeral of his younger brother. The language is rich and descriptive and includes the grief and tears of his parents, the uncomfortable awkwardness of neighbours, the confusion and the sympathy. I like the symbolism of the 'snowdrops and candles' to port

This is a great anthology for college students. It contains the typical canon pieces by Hawthorne, Dickens, Melville, etc., but it also has some wonderful surprises, both old and new.
The poetry section is a great survey, with whole chapters dedicated to poets such as Dickinson, Frost, Cummings, and Hughes.
Drama contains a play by Sophocles, Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams, and Henrik Ibsen, as well as 'Fences' by Wilson.
I've enjoyed reading and closely examening all of these texts.

This best-selling anthology continues to combine a generous and vibrant selection of stories, poems, and plays with editorial features proven to help students read, think, and write effectively about literature. Now featuring unique visual portfolios and a CD-ROM packed with activities and contextual material, the new edition brings literature to life for students as never before./

This is the text my literature class is using, so I guess I am currently reading it, too. We're starting with short stories.

I am not big fan of short stories (they all seem to end surprisingly dreadful) but I really enjoy the way the text book is written.

The Compact Bedford Introduction to Literature is a best-seller for a reason: It brings literature to life for students, helping to make them lifelong readers and better writers. Classic works drawn from many periods and cultures appear alongside a strong showing from today’s authors. There is plenty of support for students, with a dozen chapters of critical reading and writing support, helpful sample close readings, writing assignments, and student papers. And, because everyone teaches and learns a little differently, there are lots of options for working with the literature, including case studies on individual works and themes that everyone can relate to. In-depth chapters on major authors like Flannery O’Connor and Emily Dickinson take students deeper into their work, and the new tenth edition features a chapter on the fiction of Dagoberto Gilb, created in collaboration with the author himself—one more way that the anthology showcases literature as a living, changing art form.
